Bodybuilding can be a very healthy and rewarding activity forteenagers for a number of reasons aside from the obviousphysical benefits. However, due to their youth and the naturalchanges occurring in their bodies, parents often wonder if thetraining regimen of a teenager needs to vary drastically fromthat of an adult? Most of the dangers relating to teenage bodybuilding actuallyhave more to do with the "teenage" portion of the equation. Noone, other than teenagers, would argue with the fact thatteenagers can behave impulsively and can be prone to ignoringthe precautions and rules they find themselves faced with. Obviously, this doesn't apply to all teenagers, but it issomething that needs to be taken into consideration. There has been a longstanding belief that heavy weightliftingcan actually stunt the growth of bones. The basis of thebelief is that heavy weight lifting can speed up growth plateclosure, prematurely stopping the bone growth. This has beensuggested, but not proven, but weight lifting at an early agecertainly hasn't stunted the growth of the many professionalathletes who started young. However, they may be exceptions tothe rule and the jury is technically still out with nodefinitive proof in either camp. Regardless, the danger is only really associated with heavyduty lifting and only occurs prior to a teenager reaching fulldevelopmental maturity. Though it obviously varies fromteenager to teenager, the average age of full developmentalmaturity is 15 and very few teenagers under that age arepumping heavy iron. A teenager shouldn't try to simply emulate the workout routinesof the adults that he or she may see at the gym. The odds arethat any adult worth emulating in the gym has been training foryears and has vast amounts of experience and training, which theteenager is lacking. While trainers are a good idea for everyone, they areespecially important for teenagers. Bad habits in weighttraining can lead to serious injuries and the U.S. ConsumerProduct Safety Commission states 12% of the annual accidentsinvolving weightlifting equipment involved children between theages of 5 and 14, and 35% involved people aged 15 - 24. A good trainer will help a teenager develop the proper form,which is critical to avoiding injury. A trainer can also helpreign in a teen who, in excitement and immature reasoning, maytry to use weights that are simply too heavy. Another danger for teenagers is the disturbing trend towardssupplement overuse. Again, this can attributed to a lack ofintellectual maturity and experience, but teenagers seemespecially prone to sucking into the mythology that supplementsare a magic key to building muscles and looking better. Despite what they may believe about their own thinkingcapacity, teenagers are especially receptive to advertisementsand magazine hype. The fact that a majority of bodybuildingmagazines are owned and published by companies who also producesupplements isn't widely known. Realistically, teenagers are under no greater risk than adultswhile working out as long as it is done properly andintelligently. The beverages were either oolong teacontaining 690 milligrams of tea catechins or oolong teacontaining 22 milligrams of tea catechins.At the end of the study period, the subjects were evaluated onfat loss, body weight, BMI and LDL cholesterol levels.Participants who received the tea supplement containing 690milligrams of tea catechins had significantly lower body weight,BMI, body fat and cholesterol levels over the participants whoreceived the tea containing 22 milligrams of tea catechins. Thestudy concluded that with similar diet and exercise routines,drinking tea produced better weight loss results and loweredcholesterol more than diets that did not contain such high levelsof tea catechins.It's important to note that this study did not measure theeffects of tea's caffeine on participants. In fact, the oolongtea consumed by each group contained the same amount of caffeine.So, this study leads us to believe that it is the tea catechinsrather than the caffeine that produces weight loss results.Many people take supplements for weight loss, and many of themprove to have negative side effects or to be unhealthy overall.This is another reason that using tea as a weight loss supplementis preferable to relying on other types of supplements. Is Syndrome X Making You Fat?

Do you exercise every day but can't seem to lose weight? Then, perhaps Syndrome X is to blame.Syndrome X is a serious problem that can adversely affect your health. In addition to weight problems, Syndrome X has been linked to heart disease, hypoglycemia and menstrual imbalances. It is also a precursor to developing Diabetes Type 2.Syndrome X is also referred to as Metabolic Syndrome, Metabolic Syndrome X and Insulin Resistance. Change what you're eating and get walking and you'll be amazed at the pounds start to fall off. How I Discovered Tai Chi

Once in a while, I get really bored with my workouts. You know,after a while it gets to be the same old, same old stuff. It isalways weights or cardio machines or the same stuff over andover again. I have worked out for years and sometimes it isnice to have something different to sink your teeth into whenyou go to the gym. Or it is also nice to have something fun andinvigorating to do at home. Something that gets you started offon the right foot in the morning.I recently found something that fits that criteria and it iscalled Tai Chi. You may have heard of it. It has been aroundfor centuries. Tai Chi is a Chinese martial art but differentfrom regular sparring types of kung fu. Some people may call ita soft style of martial arts and I think they have a pointbecause you cant really whack a guy with Tai Chi. But thatdoesnt matter because the point of this exercise is to help aperson relax and to inner reflect, if you will. How to do TaiChi correctly and effectively is a simple matter of finding theright instructor.You see, Tai Chi is all about finding the right balance withinyourself, your Chi or spiritual center. Most people do not doTai Chi for any martial arts benefit. I know I did not start itfor that reason. I did it to have another form of exercise inplace of regular boring stuff I was sick of. The thing is, Idiscovered that it really does help you find peace and improveyour balance.Tai Chi is based on using the whole body, even the innerstrength of the mind and breath, all together as one unit.Think of it as standing yoga or a combination of that andballet. Maybe it seems silly for a tough guy like me to say Ido something similar to ballet, but I tell you, it is not onlyrelaxing but challenging as well. Some people call it movingmeditation. Because that is what you are doing. You are movingyour hands and arms and legs together, but you are relaxingyour mind at the same time to allow deep meditation.Tai Chi patterns are easy to learn and hard to master. They arevery flowing and smooth and develop the internal flow or Chi oryour body and soul. It was tough for me at first, doing allthose weird poses and repetitive moves, but it got easier andmuch more fun once I got the hang of it. I knew I had to be badbefore I good be good.There are a wide range of videos out there to help you getstarted and I tried quite a few before I got hooked on oneinstructor that really blew me away.
